Mandate: The mandate of the FAO is to raise levels of nutrition and standards of living, to improve agricultural productivity, and to better the condition of rural populations. It is the lead UN agency for agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and rural development.

Structure: The FAO does the bulk of its procurement through the Procurement Service at its Rome headquarters. Field Offices, Sub-Regional Offices, and Regional Offices are also delegated the authority to engage in procurement activity within specified limits.

Procurement Procedures:

Registration: : Suppliers of products or services that may be of interest to the FAO should fill out either a goods or services Supplier Profile Form available at:
http://www.fao.org/unfao/procurement/solicitation.html#goods .

Procurement Rules: : In general, procurement is done through an open competitive process whereby ITBs are delivered to selected potential suppliers.

Field Procurement: : Project, Sub-Regional, and Regional Offices have been delegated the authority to engage in procurement within the following limits:

  • Project Offices: < $USD 25,000
  • Sub-Regional Offices: < $USD 50,000
  • Regional Offices: < $USD 100,000
